Rare Japanese advertising poster featuring an adorable infant sitting inside an oversized can of Pearl Brand Condensed Milk (真珠ミルク). The poster was issued by Nitta Rennyu Seizōsho (新田煉乳製造所), a condensed milk manufacturer located in Tokachi, Hokkaido, reflecting the region’s dairy industry prominence in the early 20th century.

The design places a charming baby front and center against a deep blue background, with bold Japanese text on the upper left identifying the product as Hokkaido-produced Pearl Milk. Below, the large illustrated can shows the brand name in English and Japanese, with the company name in Roman letters and Japanese characters on the right margin.

Posters of this type were common in Japan during the Taishō to early Shōwa periods (circa 1920s–1930s), when manufacturers of dairy products used cute infant imagery to associate condensed milk with health, nourishment, and child nutrition in a rapidly modernizing society.

The soft painterly rendering, saturated color field, and strong graphic composition are characteristic of Japanese commercial lithography from this era, blending Western advertising conventions with local branding.

This piece is a fine example of vintage Japanese food advertising, capturing both the aesthetics of the period and the historical context of Hokkaido’s dairy industry.
